>> Who can access the Foundation?
Children with visual impairment can access the Foundation
http://www.handylex.org/stato/l030401.shtml
The centre of Cannero Riviera deals with children aged 0 to 4 years; Padua is aimed instead at children aged 0 to 8 years for diagnostic and functional advice and from 0 to 14 years for the children under care/therapy.
>> How can I ask for a consultation/ stay?
To submit a request it is necessary to register on this web site. A giuded procedure will help you to fill in the form correctly.
It may take a few days between sending the form, and the first telephone contact. A psychologist will contact you to identify together the best proposal to your needs.
>> What documents should I attach to my request for a consultation?
- Clinical documentation related to eye / orthotic visits, neurological / neuropsychiatric, genetic, physiatrist, discharge letters of hospitalizations, imaging studies (MRI, EEG, electro functional tests ... ) and updated reports from specialists who follow the child.
- A video (max 10 minutes) on the child's daily life (while playing, eating ...)
>> What is it meant by diagnostic- functional consulting in the center of Padua?
For diagnostic and functional consulting is meant multidisciplinary observation by various specialist figures, intended to provide a picture of global development in its various aspects (sensory, neuro-motor, affective and relational), identifying the child’s skills and needs. During the consultation the family can be hosted for the necessary days (usually in ways of 3 consecutive days, or 5 weekly meetings, or other ways).
>> What is it meant by diagnostic follows-up in the center of Padua?
For diagnostic follows-up the Robert Hollman Foundation uses eye exams, orthotic assessments, electro - functional tests, neuropsychiatric visits.
The doctors visit within the Foundation allowing them to form a working group together with the operators, where observations are shared by everyone before, during, after each meeting, encouraging the integration of multidisciplinary work.
>> How are the stays in Cannero Riviera structured?
For each child and his family, a micro multidisciplinary team is available that identifies the child's needs in terms of neuro - psychomotor, affective - relational, educational and cognitive, in the light of his visual impairment.
We propose parents and children group and individual activities.
Parents are present during activities and are considered an active part of the path of their child in the Foundation. Seven families are received simultaneously in the center and the informal exchange among several parents who face similar problems is a residential strength. The number of activities depends on the needs and requirements of each child taking in consideration his sleep / wake rhythms. The weekends don’t foresee any activities and families who so desire, can return home.
>> What should I bring for weekly stays or consultations with overnight stay?
In addition to the clinical documentation attached to the request for consultation, we ask you to bring with you:
- Medical certificate stating that the child is not suffering from contagious diseases and that they can live in the community. The certificate needs to be updated a few days before arrival to the Foundation.
- In case of epilepsy a medical certificate is required, issued by the child psychiatrist physician, attesting that drug administration has been unchanged for at least two months, that crises are under control and that the child can participate in the various re - habilitation proposals.
- The child's health card with any prescription charge exemption.
- Valid identity document for those staying overnight in the Foundation.
>> How much does the accommodation in the Foundation cost?
During stays in Cannero headquarters and during the consultations in the Padua headquarters, the family can be hosted in the Foundation.
The accommodation is borne by the Foundation for the child and the parental couple so totally free of charge for the family. Other relatives, babysitters, teachers, etc. ... will have to take care to lodge externally.
Information will be available regarding some external accommodation next to the Foundation.

The services provided are charged to the Foundation and are therefore totally free for all families.
The Foundation is not an agreement with the National Health System and GP referrals are therefore not necessary.
If you wish to make a donation below are the different possibilities:
>> Who will take care of my child?
For each child, depending from the situation and the moment, his needs and requirements, are identified among the multidisciplinary team (psychologist, educator, occupational therapist, rehabilitation therapist, educator, psychomotor therapist, orthoptist, music therapist, physiotherapist and speech therapist) two / three professional figures who will interact directly with the child and his family. The working group is coordinated by a psychologist or pedagogue.
>> Can professionals who already follow the child outside of the Foundation also be there?
With the permission of parents, therapists and educators who have charge of the child can access the Foundation during activities, in agreement with the structure. In any case, in order to encourage the continuity of our project and, recognizing the role and importance of local services, it is our pleasure to try to establish an exchange and mutual professional cooperation through telephone contacts.
>> Is there a medical - nursing service?
In neither the two locations a medical - nursing service is available.
In Cannero Riviera: In case of medical / pediatric needs during you stay you can go to a Pediatrician’s office (6 km), the Hospital of Verbania (15 km) or, at your own expense, apply for a home pediatric visit. In emergencies call the 118 emergency number.

>> How do I cancel or postpone appointments?
For any kind of difficulty, it is possible to cancel the date of the appointments by communicating this as early as possible. In order to assure everyone that counselling is conducted on schedule (considering numerous requests on the waiting list), the Foundation grants a maximum of 2 cancellations.
